Intake

Interviews you to turn a rough idea into a clear project brief: goal, people involved, limits, what success looks like, and scope.

When to use it

At the very start, when you have an idea but haven’t pinned it down. It asks a few friendly questions and hands back a short brief you (or your AI) can plan and build from.

A real example

This is a real run, in a fresh Claude Code install with only this skill, on 30 Sep 2026. The reply is shortened: […] marks where we cut. Nothing is reworded.

What we asked

Use the intake skill. My idea: a simple page where parents in my kid's class can sign up to bring snacks for the school trip. Assume sensible answers to your questions and write the brief without waiting for me.

What it said back

Since you asked me to move without waiting, I filled in the gaps with sensible defaults — flagged below as assumptions so you can correct any that miss the mark. # Project Brief: snack-signup 1. Goal A simple web page where parents in the class can see what snacks/items are still needed for the school trip and claim one, so the organizer doesn't have to chase people by text or email. […] 4. What it can touch

Only what you type in the chat. It asks questions and writes your project brief back to you in the chat; it doesn't browse the web or change any files unless you say yes to saving it.

Install it

Download intake.zip

In Claude (website or desktop app)

  1. Download the zip below. Keep it zipped: it already holds the intake folder with its SKILL.md inside.
  2. In Claude (the website or the desktop app), go to Customize > Skills, click +, then Create skill, then Upload a skill, and choose the zip.
  3. On the Free, Pro or Max plan, code execution has to be on for skills to work. Turn it on in Settings > Capabilities.
  4. Start a new chat and describe the job. Claude uses the skill when it fits, or you can ask for it by name ("use the intake skill").

From Claude’s help page, Use skills in Claude. Menus move now and then; if these don’t match, check there.

In Claude Code

  1. Download the zip below and unzip it. You get a folder called intake.
  2. Move that folder into the .claude/skills folder in your home folder, so you end up with ~/.claude/skills/intake/SKILL.md. (~ means your home folder. Make the skills folder if it isn’t there yet.)
  3. In Claude Code, type /intake to use it, or just describe the job and Claude will pick it when it fits. If it doesn’t show up, start a new session.
