Pick one thing you've always wanted to understand

Not a whole field — one specific concept, document, or result that has confused you. Examples: a clause in your lease, your blood test results, how compound interest actually works, what a particular medication does. The more specific, the better the explanation.

What you're learning

The instinct is to ask broad questions ("explain finance to me"). The better instinct is to ask narrow questions ("explain what APR means and why it matters for my credit card"). Specific questions get specific answers that stick.
